This place always warms my heart.

There's just something kitschy and down home about it.

And there's something gosh-darn American about entering something in a state fair and winning a ribbon for it.

Our next stop was the Fine Arts Building. This is always one of Dale's favorite places to visit. Mine too. Following are some of the pieces we found notable.

COLD DAY, HOT CHEESE by MICHAEL ANDERSON, Minneapolis, Digital Print. I liked this one because it's a cool shot but also because Matt's is in our neighborhood.

State Fair 2024 - Old Iron Show (Machinery Hill)

Our first stop was Machinery Hill, or, as it is now known, the Old Iron Show).

From the State Fair website: "Reminiscent of the former Machinery Hill, the Old Iron Show gives fair guests an opportunity to get up-close for demonstrations and displays of beautifully restored, rare antique farm equipment. Learn about the history of the machines, their use in farm fields, the manufacturers of yesteryear, the dedicated, talented restorers in Minnesota, and best of all – marvel as the engines roar to life!"

State Fair 2024 - We Made It!

We made it! No broken leg to keep me away this year. We left home at about 5:15. Dale took his usual route of Hennepin Avenue to Larpenteur and we easily parked in the north lot. We've always had good luck with parking there on later weekday afternoons.

We walked to the north entrance and got in easily as the lines at the ticket booths were only two or three. people deep. It was about 80 degrees and the humidity was at the lower end of being uncomfortable. Walking slowly helped.
