State Fair 2024: 2nd Visit - Horse Barn

Sunday, September 1, 2024

We made a stop at the Horse Barn but mosgt of the horses had been taken out for judging. We were only able to find a few in their stalls. Here's one who was munching on a bag of hay.

State Fair 2024 - Bridgeman's: Lady's Slipper Marble Sundae

Friday, August 23, 2024

After the sheep barn we headed to the Bridgeman's booth. One of the new Fair foods I was wanting to try this year was the Lady Slipper Marble Sundae. The State Fair website describes it as: "Bridgeman's strawberry ice cream, lemon marshmallow cream and ladyfinger cookies layered in a cup and topped with whipped cream and a cherry." Dang it was good. Dale surprised me and got one too.

We ate them sitting on a bench behind the horse you see above. The Bridgeman's booth is just to the left of the horse's head. We watched people and horses going by.

State Fair 2022 - Mini-Donuts, Horses, and Cows

Sunday, September 4, 2022

First stop: Tom Thumb Mini Donuts. My favorite. Dale didn't want any so I ate the whole thing.

On Judson Avenue. We decided to head toward the animal barns.

Where else in the city are ya gonna see cows on the street? Why, the Minnesota State Fair of course.

We made it to the horse barn and saw some real beauties.

Fair 2015 - Visit #1: Horse Barn

Saturday, August 29, 2015

Shay never got her cheese curds and was starting to get hungry. Mike and Ashanka took her off to forage for food. I stayed with Charisse and the gals and we decided to all meet up in about 45 minutes. We peeked in the horse barn building and saw some pretty amazing animals.  I’m not sure what kind of horses the ones pictured here were, but we determined they weren’t Clydesdale’s since they didn’t have hair hanging over their hooves. They were quite awesome to behold. It’s hard to tell their massive size from the photos. We also saw some black horses that Charisse identified as Percherons. Majestic.

Fair 2015 - Visit #1: Clydesdales?

Saturday, August 29, 2015

We weren't sure what kind of horses these were and there was no one around to ask. They look exactly like Clydesdales except for the lack of hair covering their hooves. Maybe these are Clydesdales who've had leg hair trims.

Fair 2015 - Visit #1: Hazy Day

Saturday, August 29, 2015

After the horses, the gals and I crossed the street to look at cowboy hats. Cathy actually purchased one. I got a Diet Coke Charisse then texted Mike with our location. As we waited we saw the sun through the hazy sky, eerily beautiful due to all the wildfires out west. Also, we saw a number of horse teams ride by as we waited here.

First Visit 2014 - More Horse Barn

First Visit 2014 - Persheron Horse

While in the Horse Barn we came across a Persheron horse being groomed. The aisle he was in was blocked off so we couldn't get close but were surprised to see how big he was, although it's hard to see that in this picture.

First Visit 2014 - Granite

Stopped by the Horse Barn and said hi to Granite who is a 19-year-old Azteca horse. I found him to be distinct as I didn't see too many all-white horses there.
