State Fair 2018 (Second Visit) - Bridgeman's

Sunday, September 2, 2018

I had a chance to try the Bridgeman's ice cream sundae I read about on Facebook just prior to the opening of the fair. The description is as follows:

"We are excited to have been approved to add a new sundae to our menu at the Minnesota State Fair! Introducing our Campfire Marble...9 layers of chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce and whip cream topped off with crushed graham cracker and mini marshmallows! Who is going to stop by and try one? You can find us on the corner of Judson and Liggett across from the Coliseum."

The booth is near the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum. It was fun watching the guys assemble it. They had to pass it back and forth between them as there were so many ingredients and the booth was quite small. It turned out to be rather delicious and it was fun to be back at Bridgeman's again as all of their stores in the Twin Cities are now closed. They do still make ice cream which is sold in some grocery stores and scoop shops.

State Fair 2018 (First Visit) - Blue Moon Dine-In Theater

Saturday, August 25, 2018

My most favorite place to eat at the fair is the Blue Moon Dine-In Theater. The food is always great and they introduce a new kind of ice cream every year.

This year the new flavor is smoked soft serve.

It includes what's listed in the above photo. I got it with the hot chocolate sauce.

It came with a bacon chip and a roasted marshmallow.

I found it to be quite good.

State Fair 2018 - Bridgeman's Ice Cream

Friday, August 10, 2018

Okay, there are still about a couple weeks left before the State Fair opens but I'm getting excited. Actually, I started getting excited about it in early June as school was letting out. Anyway, I saw a post for Bridgeman's ice cream on Facebook today and it looks like they have a presence at the fair.

Here's the text of the post:

As a kid, Bridgeman's was my favorite ice cream parlour. You could sit down (which we often did), or you could just order cones to go at the counter (which we often did as well).  The only restaurant left is in Duluth but the ice cream is available at a number of scoop shops and grocery stores in the Twin Cities. Anyway, can't wait to try the sundae pictured above.

Third Visit 2014 - Blue Moon Dine-In Theater

Sunday, August 31, 2014
The sweet corn ice cream I got on my last visit was so good I just had to have more. Dale and I stayed long enough to sit down and catch a Daffy Duck cartoon in the theater.

State Fair 2013 (2nd Trip) - Hamline Dining Hall

One of the food items on my list to try this year was Mini Donut Batter Crunch Ice Cream by Izzy's. It was being sold at the Hamline Church Dining Hall on Dan Patch Avenue.  The Hamline Dining Hall has been there for years. In fact, I remember taking my younger brother Pete there on a trip we made to the Fair way back in 1989. As far as I know it's the last of the church dining halls left at the fair. Anyway, when Dale and I got there, they were out of the Mini Donut Batter Crunch. I went with mint chip in a cone and they topped it off for me with a scoop of sea salt and caramel by Izzy's. Dale got his in a cup and had the a scoop of the sea salt and caramel with a scoop of mint chip. Very delicious.

State Fair 2013 - Minnepumpkin Pie

I found the second item on my food-quest list - the Minnepumpkin deep fried pie at the Minneapple Pie stand.  I got it with cinnamon ice cream. Heaven!

State Fair 2013 - Butterhead

We next headed to the Dairy Building for ice cream for Charisse and Shay.  While they were in line I got a picture of a butterhead sculpture. She looks great, don't you think?

State Fair 2012 - Cereal Killer Ice Cream

This was on my list to try this year and try I did. How was it? Fantastic! It was made up of vanilla ice cream and topped with Honey Nut Cheerios, bananas, and caramel. Divine.

Food 2012 - Cereal Killer Ice Cream

New food items for the 2012 fair were recently announced. The Cereal Killer Ice Cream from the Blue Moon Dine-In Theater sounds worth trying simply because their ice cream last year was so delicious.

The following is from the State Fair's website:

"Soft ice cream that tastes just like the milk left at the bottom of your breakfast cereal bowl. Featuring two flavors - one sweet and chocolatey and one honey and nutty. It's served in a bowl with a little milk creeping up the sides and topped with dry cereal. Two fruit toppings available: banana caramel and strawberry balsamic."

I might just have to try both.

The Fair 2011 (2nd Visit) Part 2 - Sweet Corn Ice Cream

I got some of the sweet corn ice cream at the Blue Moon stand and it was well worth it. The topping I picked was caramel candied nuts. Delicious.

Sweet Corn Ice Cream

This past Saturday I read in the Strib about a place at the State Fair called the Blue Moon Dine-In Theater. I haven't heard of it before but I guess it's been there about 5 years now. This year they're offering sweet corn ice cream which is supposed to be quite good. There are three toppings to choose from which are: a cinnamon-scented blueberry compote, a butter sauce with hints of bacon and, finally, crunchy candied peanuts. I would have sought it out had I known about it on our visit last Friday. Good thing we're planning on going to the fair twice this year!
